Trying new things can be hard. Especially if we are not accustomed to stepping outside of our comfort zone regularly. Therefore, if you have never attended a yoga studio before, it might feel nerve wracking. You may even find yourself thinking some of the following…

What is something that all humans have in common? After decades of interviewing a range of individuals from Barack Obama to Beyonce to top entrepreneur's and everyday folk, Oprah Winfrey shared that at the end of each interview, her guest would turn to her and quietly ask ‘Was that OK?’ It was through these moments that she discovered that most of us are asking the following questions as we move through life:

I'm all too familiar with staying in a 'safe space' of what is familiar or comfortable but I've learnt over the years that I need to become comfortable with discomfort (although this is a daily practice). Particularly when it comes to trying new things. We might stay in our comfort zone for many reasons: fear of looking silly, fear of failure, fear of judgement, fear of truly being seen, fear of not living in the box that we have put ourselves in, or that others have put us in (how obedient of us!) The list goes on. I've discovered however, that once we courageously push through a fear, it's amazing how the force of that fear loses momentum and we realise that the worst part of the experience was fear itself. Often the outcome is a lot more underwhelming than we might have thought! You might ask yourself, Why on earth was I so afraid? The good news is, for that bravery we are usually rewarded in some way. Whether its learning a new skill, building confidence in a certain area, making a new connection, gaining respect for ourselves or from others, or even learning a lesson if things don't go the way we had hoped. Most importantly we strengthen our courage 'muscle' 💪

When it comes to yoga mats, I’m fairly particular and if you are a seasoned yogi, you might be too. This stems from the fact that I’ve tried many different types over the years and some have proven to be more functional than others. A particular gripe of mine, is when a yoga mat causes your body to slip or slide around during a practice. There is nothing worse than trying to find balance and stability whilst your feet or hands are sliding around during downward dog or warrior 2! I decided to give the Sustainable Non-Slip Jute Mat a go to see if it lived up to its promise. Summary For me, the main pros of this mat are the incredible grip, the sustainable materials used, and the aesthetically pleasing design. It’s a mat that can be used across all forms of yoga, made by a company that has the planet and its people in mind.

NB: Sweaty Betty recently updated the 'Gary Yoga pants' to the ' Gaia Yoga Pants'. The below review is reviewing the original product. If you were interested in the new and updated version, i've included links to the Gaia pants in the article below. To kick this off, I’ll admit that I don’t usually like to wear loose bottoms whilst practicing yoga. I’ve always preferred form fitting yoga clothes, mainly because I don’t like fabric bunching and limiting my movement. I also find it quite distracting when the fabric of your clothes shifts and needs to be readjusted. However, I wanted to give the Gary Cropped Yoga Pants a go, simply because they seem to have a firm fan base in the yoga world, particularly in the cropped version. Summary I actually love these pants. Not only for practising yoga, but also for wearing casually. I’ve owned these for 6 months now and have worn and washed them many times and can confirm that they are a quality product. Whilst these are a loose fit, they are not so loose that they are baggy. The fabric is next level soft, and the cuffs on the leg provide a stylish shape. I’d recommend these to anyone who wants some looser pants to practice yoga in, or anyone who is looking for some casual bottoms to wear out and about.

I have been wanting to try out the Align tank for a LONG time now as I’ve heard many people rave about it. On top of that, a fitted V-neck silhouette is probably one of my favourite designs in a yoga top. However, if you take a look at the reviews on the lululemon website, you will notice that whilst there are many fans of this top, there is still a decent amount of people who have criticisms of it. Therefore, this sets the scene for an interesting review. Summary The Align Tank is part of the wider ‘Align’ Collection which started with the Align leggings and has now branched out to tops and bras. It has a flattering design, comfortable fabric and light support that carries you through your yoga practice. I personally struggled a bit with choosing the right size, but after testing it out over numerous yoga practices, I can confirm that this tank is a 'Yes' from me.

The Power Cycling Shorts by Sweaty Betty are one of their most popular styles and they come in several different lengths. Whilst these were not made with yoga in mind, I had previously heard others mention how they enjoyed wearing these to practice in. Naturally, I was intrigued so I thought I’d give these a go! Summary These are a versatile pair of shorts in that they can be used for a range of different activities. Due to the medium compression fabric and sculpting seam lines, they are a durable option that provide you with great support. Since these aren’t specifically designed for yoga, they won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. However, if you are fairly easy going with what you wear to yoga, you might find that these are an excellent pair of shorts that can take you from the yoga studio, to the gym, for a run etc.

NB: The particular shorts reviewed are currently out of stock on the Sweaty Betty website. I will update this review once they become available again.

OK, I'll admit that I sometimes trawl through the Sweaty Betty website considering my next purchase, and the Super Soft Crop Strappy Vest is an item that I had come back to many a time before finally deciding to take the plunge and give it a go. In fact, Sweaty Betty has a whole collection called the Super Soft family which features clothing designed for yoga. If you were interested, I’ve also reviewed the leggings from this range. Anyway - onto this review! Summary The Super Soft Crop Vest was created with yoga, pilates and barre in mind and I must say that It is a thoughtfully designed item. It has lovely soft fabric, a fitted design that still allows you to breathe easily and the strappy back detail creates a fun and interesting feature. All in all, I’m a big fan of this top and I quickly realised that it was going to be difficult to find many faults with it. However, do read on if you are interested in the further nitty gritty details!

I recently reviewed the Gymshark Elevate Leggings and whilst ordering these I saw that there was an Elevate Longline Bra that was also designed with yoga in mind. I decided to give this a go as I was drawn to how it looked and I was curious how the two products would work together as a set. Summary Like the Elevate leggings, I think that the longline bra’s greatest asset is how it looks visually. I love the ruched detail at the chest and the fabric that sits flat under the bust is very flattering. The material is soft against your skin and it provides adequate light support for practicing yoga. If you are someone who feels self conscious of your chest/cleavage being exposed then this might not be the top for you as it is a very open design with not the greatest coverage when bending over. Overall it’s a cute crop-top with a few caveats. More detail below!

I’d been curious about Gymshark for a while and I had visited their site multiple times. It took me a little while to figure out what leggings they recommended for yoga but after a bit of clicking around I came across the Elevate line. I’ve tried the Longline bra from this collection as well, but this review will be focusing purely on the leggings. Summary I wanted to love these leggings but if I’m being completely honest, I don’t recommend these as yoga clothing. I’ll go into it more below but long story short, I experienced pretty bad rolling at the waist (across several sizes) and because of this point, they aren’t very functional. On a positive note - I do love the way they look visually, they provide great stretch and are very flattering. All in all, this is a pretty mixed bag of a review!

The Seamless 7/8 Yoga leggings from Decathlon have quite a popular following and they are a style that has been produced in a range of different colours to date. I was keen to try these as I like to present a range of different price points on this website and these certainly come in at the affordable end of the yoga legging spectrum. Summary After trying these out I would describe the Kimjaly Seamless 7/8 Leggings as high on comfort, affordability and visually I think that they are a flattering shape. They have a unique fabric which I go into below, that whilst is very comfortable, it isn’t going to provide you with extra support if that is something that you are looking for. Overall I think that these are a really nice option for anyone looking for basic yoga leggings that are good quality, that aren’t going to break the bank - particularly for those who might be new to yoga and not willing to invest in more premium options.

Before trying these M&S leggings, I was optimistic but didn’t have super high hopes, simply due to the fact that M&S isn’t specifically an activewear brand, let alone a yoga brand. However, I must say I was pleasantly surprised after wearing these and they were instantly some of the most flattering yoga leggings I’ve worn and are a well considered product.
By PJ 16 May, 2023
After recently being introduced to the brand, Kimjaly, which is Decathlon’s answer to yoga wear, I came across this cute crop top that I thought I’d try out. I’m a big fan of pairing crop tops and high waisted bottoms for yoga - mainly because it creates a fun look that allows you to keep cool whilst still being relatively covered up. Summary The Kimjaly Yoga Crop top is a flattering design which is made from a lovely soft fabric. This particular top is part of their premium range so it’s slightly pricer when compared to some of their other products. Kimjaly created this line with advanced yogis in mind and they use technical fabric in order to create long lasting items that provide sweat wicking and breathability. I’d describe this as a quality item that is both stylish and comfortable.

Having recently reviewed the Mallea Yoga Leggings, I was curious to try the Mallea Crop Top, which is made from the same fabric and was also designed for yoga. If you haven’t heard of Bamboo Clothing and their mission to produce more environmentally friendly activewear, then I’d encourage you to check out what they are up to. Summary After wearing this to many yoga classes, I can safely say that I find this to be a very comfortable top. The fabric is, dare I say it, ‘buttery’ soft and whilst it’s a form fitting design, I have never felt restricted in any way wearing this. If you are a yogi who prefers to wear cropped tops or longline bras then this is a great piece of clothing to try out.

If I’m being completely honest, I usually only wear leggings to practise yoga in (in terms of my lower half) so these cropped bottoms were a little out of my comfort zone when purchasing. However, whilst browsing the Decathlon yoga range, I couldn’t help but notice just how highly rated these were. This of course piqued my interest and I’m glad that it did. The Kimjaly brand is Decathlon’s answer to yoga clothing and having now owned and worn these bottoms I’m looking forward to trying other items that they have to offer. Summary The Kimjaly Cropped Bottoms are a lovely soft piece of clothing for practicing yoga in. There is absolutely nothing restrictive about them as they are designed to be a loose fit against your body. I really appreciate how versatile they are around the mid section due to the waistband that can be pulled up high or folded down. This garment is so stretchy and soft that it can also be worn during pregnancy. If comfort is a high priority to you when selecting yoga wear then these cropped bottoms are certainly an item to keep in mind.

The Mallea Yoga Leggings were specifically designed with yoga in mind and because of this I believe that BAM have created a legging that all yogis would appreciate.
By PJ 22 Mar, 2023
The Super Soft 7/8 Yoga Leggings are a high-quality yoga legging that provides comfort, durability, and style. They are made of a soft, breathable fabric that is perfect for yoga. In my opinion, one of the main differentiators with these leggings is that they provide you with a lovely cinched figure due to the particular placement of their seam lines.

The Energy Bra is a medium support bra that lululemon designed for both yoga and training. It’s a versatile item that has been around for many years now and has become a much loved bra for lulu fans. Lululemon has since created new styles of this bra such as the high neck, the longline bra and also the high support version. This review will be focusing on the original Energy bra which is still a popular crowd pleaser. Summary I’ve owned the Energy bra for some time now and upon purchasing, it quickly became a favourite for me. I’ve found it to be wonderful for yoga class, hiking or even going for a casual jog.

OK, so this isn’t strictly ‘yoga clothing’ as I highly doubt anyone would be wearing a bum bag (fanny pack) during a yoga practice. HOWEVER, I had simply heard so much about this bag that I needed to try it for myself. As a bit of a bag fanatic, I have high expectations of bags so there is no stone I left untouched when reviewing this product. Summary Whilst this might not be yoga attire, it certainly is a fantastic bag to wear to and from a yoga class. It’s lightweight and roomy enough for all your essentials. I would recommend this not just for yoga, but just for general everyday wear - let’s get into the details below.

I own two pairs of these leggings, and have done so for several years now. I would say that the quality of the fabric is high and they have lasted well. What I particularly appreciate about these leggings is the array of fun patterns that you can choose from. I wouldn’t say that they were necessarily as comfortable as other brands I've tried, however they are solid yoga pants and ones that I still wear to practise in.

The Align High-Rise pants are lululemon’s most popular yoga leggings and modern yogis for many years now have been raving about them. I’m going to start off this review by saying that I've owned multiple pairs of Align pants over the years in various lengths and have worn and washed them 100’s of times. Therefore you can be sure that this is written by someone who has well and truly tested this particular product over a period of time! Summary Should you buy these? YES, I believe that they are worth it. As long as you follow the care instructions and find the size that fits you best then you will probably join a long line of Align pant converts! Ok, let’s get into why...

The Scuba Oversized Half-Zip Hoodie is a much sought after item at the moment and is growing in popularity. It is the brand's updated take on their incredibly popular classic item known as the Scuba Hoodie which has been around for many years now and has a cult following in its own right. I’ve owned lululemon’s clas sic Scuba hoodie for many years now and about 6 months ago, decided to purchase the Oversized Half-Zip Hoodie to see for myself what it was like. Summary I love this cozy hoodie. It has all the benefits of their original Scuba Hoodie but this time with a more contemporary look, thanks to its cropped and oversized cut.
